Ave Pildas is a photographer based in Santa Monica, CA. He received a BA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, OH and an MFA from the Schule für Gestaltung Basel, Switzerland. Pildas’ work has been exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA; Joseph Bellows Gallery, La Jolla, CA; and Fahle Gallery, Tallinn, Estonia. His work is included in the permanent collections of Los Angeles County Museum of Art, New York Public Library, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Pildas is the author of several photography books including 2000’s Movie Palaces, published by Hennessy & Ingalls, and 2016’s Bijou, published by Nazraeli Press. Prior to retiring, Pildas served as a professor and department chair of the Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, CA. Pildas counts Henri Cartier Bresson, Diane Arbus, and Eliott Erwitt among his greatest artistic influences.
